Description
Native to South Africa, the black calla lily is rare, elegant and mysterious; the word Calla being Greek for beautiful Although it appears to be black, it is actually maroon and deep deep purple. It stands for purity, rebirth and holiness, and the black variety can also stand for the Virgin Mary, triumph because of it's trumpet shape and the Resurrection of Christ because it blooms around Easter. It can be presented on the 6th wedding anniversary to symbolize the beauty of a couple's love or given to a girlfriend that one wishes to break up with as it is the flower of goodbyes (which can also mean goodbye to the departed, as well) The black calla lilies in this piece are enhanced with gold acrylic ink on black canvas.
