Description
Since the gardenia is my mother's favorite flower, I painted one for her. In Victorian times, flowers were used to portray feelings that were difficult to express. The gardenia meant "you are lovely" and were often given anonymously to show untold or secret love. The shiny, waxy leaves indicate self-reflection and clarity while the flower can be a symbol of protection. Their fragrance is often used for aromatherapy and the petals can be boiled into a tea which can relieve congestion and detoxify the blood and reduce cholesterol.
