After the civil war in the United States, millions of newly freed slaves had no money, no land and no where to go. Plantation owners had no one to work their land. So the land owners and the newly freed slaves entered into a new living situation called sharecropping where the African-Americans worked the land for a percentage of the crop. Although it sounded like a wonderful arrangement, it was a new form of slavery. Many times the landowner charged the families for seed, room and board, clothing and supplies on credit to be paid during the next harvest, only to put the family into more debt, unable to leave the land until the debt was paid. Life was miserable and hard for these families and they clung to their faith and prayed for better.
I don't paint anything I have to explain.
