Artist's Description
This cub is more likely watching the male rather than the other way around. Male cubs remain with the pride until weened and then they are on their own, while female cubs remain with the pride for life. When a new male takes over a pride, he will kill all of the male cubs that were not fathered by him. This is so that the females will once again be fertile and to minimize the risk that one of the male cubs may rise up against him.
