Description
Upon hearing Amanda Gorman's poem at Joe Biden's presidential inauguration ceremony, I was immediately reminded of the late Maya Angelou and was inspired to immortalize both phenomenal women on canvas. This piece depicts Angelou anointing the young Gorman, perhaps with her blessing, or knowledge, or experience. Although the women have very different styles, there are many similarities between them, including their very large rings.

Thank you. When I heard Miss Gorman speak, I was reminded of how the late Maya Angelou's poetry moved me. It seemed that somehow Angelou annointed Gorman....at least in my mind.

Thank you so much. These women are/were artists in their own right, using the medium of the spoken word, rather than a pen, pencil or paintbrush. Art is truly the cornerstone of civilization.
