Artist's Description

My first job was at a place called Burger Chef in rural Illinois. Back in those days, fast food restaurants had the assembly-line mentality, you will each your burgers with the condiments that WE say you should eat. Burger Chef and NOT Burger King was actually the chain that mastered the custom sandwich. At Burger Chef you could order your sandwich WITH, meaning all the fixings, or WITHOUT, which was a plain burger to which you could add condiments at the fixings bar. As a super picky eater (I still am) I appreciated this approach to fast food rather than standing along the wall of shame because I didn't want pickles on my burger. To this day, I still choose fast food that allows me to easily order a custom sandwich. Burger Chef and Jeff are gone, but the concept of have it your way lives on at Burger King.
