Description
Another fellow Pittsburgher, Henry Ossawa Tanner's father was an AME bishop. He is best known for his dignified portrayals of Black people in art, especially his piece entitled "The Banjo Lesson" (1893). He left the US for France and began painting Biblical scenes, for which he is best known. This is a quick gouache study I completed in honor of Black History month.
