Description
When I first saw this little fellow, I though we had a snake in the lake behind my house. He has no oil on his feathers and therefore sinks into the water with only his neck and head above the waterline, making him easily mistaken for a snake. When he emerges from the water, he spreads his wings to dry, moving his head from side to side. This guy lives in the tree behind my house and every once in a while, I will see him with a frog or large fish skewered by his sharp bill.
